Having been exposed to the realities in Sudan, my students want to make a difference. As an expeditionary learning school, we work to design curriculum that has real world consequence. We also live in a city with a large immigrant community, primarily from African nations. This is a senior humanities class (an english and social studies integration) working to understand the issues of this particular region, and what role individuals can play to tackle these profound global crises. As an english class, we are working on reading literature closely and writing literary analysis to prepare students for college.
