6th grade can be one of the hardest grades to get through. The growing pains become that much more tangible once a child starts middle school. It is up to the adults around them to transition them into this often awkward, challenging, yet simultaneously rewarding time of life. In school, the task is even greater. While becoming more independent, it can be hard to request of them the focus and attention that is required for a generally harder level of education. The group of students I currently work with must balance the demands of a longer school day, 4 different core academic subjects, after-school commitments, homework, home life, and social obligations. The students of the Timilty Middle school are learning to balance all of these demands (plus more) with a grace, wit, and strength I have not yet seen from any other group of students. It is with pleasure that I do what I do on their behalf. They deserve it.
