For most of my student's Hurricane Harvey was their first encounter with such a catastrophic event. We had just witnessed the solar eclipse a few days before, so they were literally witnessing Mother Nature at her finest in just a matter of days. As we returned to school the following week they had so much that they wanted to share about their individual experiences, not yet realizing that it had touched the lives of so many. Which made me begin to wonder how I can take this learning experience to another level. Considering I teach both math and social studies I believe that real world connections are critical in the success of my students. At this age, their minds are full of wonder and ready to explore the world around them! I believe that these resources will provide them that opportunity. Scholastic News will give my students the chance to stay up to date with current events around the world while in our classroom and on their level. In addition, the math books that I requested will allow them to integrate literature and make personal connections to see how math is applied in our daily lives. With your help, I can take my little scholars on an amazing learning adventure!
