My students are in need of books to help them explore many mental health and academic issues that they encounter at school and in their lives. Through the use of books, I hope to help students explore their feelings and attitudes about empathy, bullying, divorce, resilience, grief, and other tough topics. The books will be used in classrooms lessons and as part of a student's individual counseling. As a counselor, I work with the entire student body which means that these books have the potential of helping most (if not all) of the students at our school. I hope that these books will help to give students a safe way to express their own feelings and life experiences as we talk about the experiences of the characters in the book. I believe that when students work through the tough parts of life, then they can spend more of their energy becoming their best selves.
