My eighth grade English students are studying a unit on the Holocaust and WWII. Students will be reading a variety of nonfiction and historical fiction books to aid in their understanding of this time period. The purpose of this assignment is to have students understand first hand accounts of what happened during the Holocaust as well as fictionalized accounts of other events in WWII. Students will be using these books to read and discuss in groups of four. After they complete reading their books, they will create a museum exhibit that highlights their research about The Holocaust and WWII to and what events from previous decades contributed to the events of WWII. I hope that this will foster good readers as well a collaborative atmosphere in my classroom.
