“We may have different religions, different languages, different colored skin, but we all belong to one human race." --Kofi Annan Multicultural books allow students to imagine life from a different perspective. They teach us that, despite the diversity, human emotions are the same everywhere. They also help dispel myths and stereotypes about different cultures, while teaching tolerance and respect. Enrique's Journey, by journalist Sonia Nazario, will allow my students to learn about the many children who migrate through Mexico to come to the United States on the tops of trains. This book will foster discussions on culture, immigration, and the universal desire for a better life.
