Research has shown that sensory play builds nerve connections in the brain's pathways, which lead to the child’s ability to complete more complex learning tasks. My students will benefit from having a sensory table in our classroom not only from the sensory aspect of playing in sand and water, but also the language development. Sensory play supports language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem solving skills, and social interaction. This is an important piece for my English Language Learners. Playing in the sensory table will allow them the opportunity to increase their vocabularies through their conversations with friends. Benjamin Franklin said, "an investment in knowledge pays the best dividends." Not only are you investing in our classroom by helping fund our project, but you are investing in my students futures. In addition to the sensory table, there are also different alphabet and number games to go along with it. These games and manipulatives will give my students different opportunities to practice and learn their letters and numbers. Sensory play has been found to aid in developing and enhancing memory.
