Children are social beings who love to work together, talk, share their thinking, and be part of a group. This is how the world works and what makes school a happy place. Currently, our classroom has traditional desks and chairs that make it difficult for this to happen. They also get messy quickly and take up too much space. Problem-solving and team-work are 21st century skills. It is important that our students practice these skills. I hope that by changing our learning environment, this can happen more efficiently and spontaneously. I want our classroom to look inviting, large, and organized. Tables will help accomplish this goal. I am hoping to purchase 4 tables so that my students can work in groups of 4-6 on projects, as well as everyday assignments and activities. Currently, we have to move desks and rearrange to make group work efficient. The tables I chose are also adjustable in height to allow for flexible seating, such as stools, wiggle seats, floor seats, and stability balls. I want to transform my classroom into a warm, inviting space where students have choice and the flexibility to work independently, in pairs, or small groups. Having table is the first step in this transformation.
