This project will allow my class to experiment with different types of physical knowledge activities. These activities are appropriate for them because they can come up with their own ideas about objects and test these ideas in the real world. Children get so creative with blocks and magna tiles. There’s no end to what they can make. They can make objects. I’ve seen houses, stores, motorcycles, airplanes, castles, stages, and many, many things built with blocks. Magna tiles encourage more problem-solving skills than most regular blocks. The other concept that we are going to incorporate in our project is magnetism. Learning about magnetism is an important component of a physical science education. Students will explore how magnets attract and repel each other and certain kinds of other materials. In this project children will share what they are able to build and figure out on their own or will support. They will tell their ideas, successes, and problems. The teacher will encourage student conversation and supports them to provide clear explanations to extend their vocabulary and concept development. As students explain hypotheses about force and motion, the teacher will use interactive writing to record these hypotheses. The project will inspire children to try their ideas or test new hypotheses generated by their classmates' in a safe environment.
