The materials requested will help foster a culture of kindness in my school by acknowledging/recognizing when students embody the traits of kindness as well as other important characteristics such as loyalty, grit, care, respect and responsibility. As the school counselor, one of my main goals is to create a culture of kindness that will help students feel a sense of community and family while at school. In turn, the environment will be one in which students are able to flourish emotionally and academically while learning and engaging. As such, my hope is that students will not only excel academically but also develop socially and emotionally. Furthermore, the materials will be used as prizes earned when such character traits are seen by any staff in the building. During the monthly power up assemblies, names will be chosen randomly where students will be presented with the opportunity to win prizes and take them home. The prizes will help boost their understanding via critical thinking academically while uplifting their spirits as they are recognized for displaying the character traits instilled in the school. The project will be called: Pathway to Kindness. It is also my hope to help represent students who may not be afforded the opportunity or recognized for outstanding behavior. Each month, there will be a different character trait highlighted. As the counselor, lessons will be conducted that teach about the trait of the month. For example, respect and kindness will be taught for October. There is a Red Ribbon Week Committee that meets every other week to help kickoff the theme of kindness. Next month, the students will learn about thankfulness and so on and so forth. Kindness will be enforced all year long along with the trait of the month.
