These materials will help build our flexible seating classroom atmosphere which encourages students to take control of their learning and find what helps them learn best! Many of our current options have been gathered through garage sale summer finds, homemade tech class builds or just simple "cheaper" items purchased with my own money. These items are quickly wearing and not providing efficient and comfortable options for students. In addition, we are lacking appropriate storage for a flexible seating classroom which would allow materials and resources to be neatly stored and readily available to students throughout the day. The cubbies would allow us to store individual student folders and materials, as well as classroom community supplies (glue sticks, markers, Post-its, etc.). We tried storing everything in student lockers this year. I even was fortunate enough to inherit enough locker caddies for my entire class from the high school, but our lockers are still overflowing with backpacks and materials for other classes. Additionally, the supply storage caddies would allow each flexible seating area a "home base" for regularly used items like pencils, Expos, etc. The yoga ball chairs and stools allow students the ability to move while they work. However some of the items on the list can mark up our classroom tile floor, which is why I included a couple of area rugs. The last thing I want to do is scrape up the floor our cleaners work so hard to wax! I also decided to add the high top bar stools and table as we have a similar set-up (but only seats 2) that is currently the #1 seating choice every week! All of these items were chosen to help create a comfortable learning environment for my students to help them learn best. I can't wait to see our classroom transform!
