I teach 12 special needs students in a self-contained setting. Each student has his or her own learning difference- learning disability, cognitive difference, autistic difference, or an emotional issue. Despite their differences they have a common bond. Each student wants to learn. They don't walk into the classroom motivated but I have learned through my experience if I set up a learning environment involving discovery, engaging hands on activities, and topics that interest them, they shine. What I love most about them is they do not give up. In all honesty, if I faced the challenges they do, I wonder how I would react. Can you help them move forward?
