In this day and age, many people have computers in their home, but being in a district with such a high level of poverty, it is only common sense to know that their are many of our students who aren't so fortunate. Our school district does what it can to provide Chromebooks and Tablets but funds are very limited. Currently we have 10 Chromebooks in the classroom and would like 5 more, allowing more students access to technology. I would also like to start acquiring Tablets, which I believe will be easier for our students with learning difficulties to use. We are part of what is known as the Hybrid Initative where students learn and develop their skills through stations: Direct, where students work directly with the teacher, independent station, where students work independently with technology and the collaborative station where students communicate with their peers to solve problems and learn from each other. Some assignments take much longer because the 10 Chromebooks we have in the classroom must be shared with approximately 24 others, as well as other classes within 5th grade. The only other access to computers is during computer class, which are then used for different assignments from other subjects. During their computer class I am not available to answer questions. Having more technology in the classroom and access to google docs will hopefully help to alleviate some of these difficulties.
