These supplies will allow my students to experience chemistry firsthand, to learn about the interactions between molecules, and to better understand their neighborhood. I'd like to show students how redox reactions work and the power of reactions by using potassium iodide to make elephant toothpaste, and to practice professional and safe experiments by wearing lab coats. Students will use the burette holders on ring stands to determine the amount of energy that is contained in the oils of nuts and the differences in calories between regular Cheetos and Flamin' Hot Cheetos. We are located very close to Central Park in New York City and will use the salinity refractometers, along with the pH paper, to test the water quality throughout the park and make comparisons to their water at home and at school. These supplies will make a huge difference to the understanding and success of my students' chemistry knowledge and skills. Thank you!
