I teach first grade in a classroom full of wonderful learners in a Diverse by Design school in Harlem. My students come from a large variety of backgrounds, economic statuses, and religions. We are a second language school, so my students learn Hebrew and participate in an Israel Studies Curriculum. Additionally, they learn about the Harlem, and the very intentional reason why our school is there. Through we offer many wonderful learning experiences for our students, I have noticed that STEAM (science,technology, engineering, art, and math) is lacking in the classrooms. It is my goal to bring STEAM activities into the classroom in an effort to give my students more time to play and explore, and to discover a love of learning that goes beyond the Common Core. I want my students to code, try their hand at architecture, engineer bridges, experiment with technology, and more!
