In today's society students aren't able to sit at a desk and focus over a long period of time. After many hours of studying I decided to try flexible seating in my Reading/ Social Studies Classroom. Students have thrived since I implemented this practice. Students enjoy sitting in a variety of seating options including pillows, low sitting tables, bouncy balls. Last year I purchases two bouncy balls for my students the response was wonderful.
Students were excited to come to my classroom and learn. We have had attention and behaviors improve with the use of multiple seating arrangements. I have put in place flexible seating expectation rules. If students don't follow rules they are moved at anytime. I rarely have issues. Students are so excited not to be sitting in a desk. This has been one of the best decisions I have made in the classroom.
The materials i have listed will help more students have a variety of seating options. The bouncy ball chairs will help students who struggle to sit still and focus. I chose a futon couch to create an area near my classroom library for students to sit and read. This will also be a small reading group station. The two folding chairs will create a small group station. My goal is to have a large variety of flexible seating option for all of my students. Thank you for your consideration.
