This project is designed to help maximize learning in my classroom. Honestly, the idea of nontraditional seating frightened me a little bit at first. Yet, as I started to transition to this in my classroom I realized that giving my students choice was what was best for them. Third graders have a lot energy! By giving them the flexibility to move and wiggle they will be more engaged and attentive. I want to best meet the needs of all of the learners in my classroom, and I feel that this transition is a step toward that goal. Though I've already added some stability balls and in cushions in my room, these supplies will offer even more choices to motivate my students. I'm wanting to add more comfortable seating options for my class. The bean bag chairs I'm requesting are a class favorite and my students do their best work when they have choice. I am also requesting reclining picnic chairs. These chairs do not take up very much space and can be moved anywhere around the room. I know my students would love having these as an option. The storage drawers would help to keep their supplies and students won't have a desk to keep their supplies. Also, I'm requesting a hightop table. I think this table would be an excellent option for the students who want to sit in a traditional chair but it would give them a different setting being higher up. Last item is a rug for our classroom. This would be a comfortable space for students that want to work on the floor. This would also be a great space for class meetings.
