I would love to have a crystal ball to see the future, or be a psychic to be able to predict what kind of life my students will have. I have faith though, that one day, in the not so distant future, my students will be able to study and understand complex mathematical equations such as the Fibonacci Number. I am confident that they can become great scientists or writers, fearless leaders of our brave new world. In the meantime, they need to learn and master basic mathematics skills, view real science situations, read interesting books with comprehension and fluency, and grow up healthy in mind and body. Every big step must first begin with little steps, and it is with these little steps that you can help my kids. I teach a group of 22 bilingual students in fourth grade. Our school is Title I, which means our at-risk population has increased. Almost 100% of my students qualify for fee-reduced or free meals.
