Children use their senses to explore and learn about the world. To encourage these explorations, teachers can fill the sensory table with substances and materials for children to touch, smell, see, taste, and hear. Educators like to emphasize that “young children learn with all their senses.” Yet we sometimes have to remind ourselves of this when we plan experiences in our classrooms. We often don’t provide enough intentional opportunities for children to actively use their senses as they explore the world, especially once they get past the infant and toddler years. This project will help promote learning through sensory play.
