I am requesting a range of supplies for various purposes in our classroom. We are in need of tissues, Clorox wipes and hand sanitizer to keep the classroom a clean and organized learning environment. We also need expo markers and poster markers to utilize during direct instruction and in-class projects, from infographics and data charts to billboards and mind maps. Finally, I am requesting a color printer, ink cartridges and copy paper to increase student engagement in informational texts. Literacy growth is a top priority in our classroom, but assignments involving informational readings are almost always met with low morale and disinterest from students. I've found that many of the articles I assign are visually arresting online, with color graphics and interesting images, but without access to a color printer, these readings end up looking like dull textbook passages once they are copied in greyscale for the students. The simple ability to print in color will allow us to use articles that immediately capture students' attention and encourage them to interact with informational texts in a more meaningful way.
