We are a close-knit group that thrives on routine, consistency, and structure. My students need sensory breaks often and require assistance in meeting their sensory needs. Some students use a visual schedule and PECs to communicate sensory needs and create an environment that is routine and safe. Allowing my students the opportunity to meet their sensory needs allows them the ability to access the general education classroom and the curriculum. Some students are able to access this simply with sensory accommodations. Other students need many sensory accommodations simply to access a modified curriculum and stay seated for ten minutes at a time. Each student has their own specific needs that we work hard to meet daily. As we discover what each child needs, we are able to help them access their education and gain independence. Our goal is to aid these children in becoming independent and productive citizens.
