All of these materials will be essential in helping me expand my counseling program and support children's' social-emotional learning.
I would like to engage my kids through the use of social-emotional learning books, games, and play therapy. Children express themselves in a variety of ways. The play therapy will offer them different ways of expressing themselves. The books will help me grow my social-emotional library and will be useful in having children learn about a variety of topics and discuss them during individual, small group sessions, or classroom lessons. I would love for them to have lap desks so they can still do the work associated with our lessons. Additionally, I often have students come to me who are in the middle of a crisis. The bean bags would help me give my students a comfortable spot to sit when they are in this state, it will help calm their emotions and provide a supportive environment for their social and emotional needs. Board games are always a fun and engaging alternative to learning about specific counseling-related topics. I will occasionally meet with students who are overly stimulated in class and will need something to "fidget" with to help with calming down. Having these gadgets that promote self-regulation and sensory skills handy will ensure I am fully prepared at all times.
