With the ability to access coding, engineering, and technology through these Makey Makey kits, my students will have access to technology previously unavailable to them. This access will increase student engagement in subjects that seem "out-of-reach", such as Math, Science, and Computer Science, and make it accessible and tangible. Nothing is more impactful than giving students a foot in the door to a subject that they have low-confidence in. To quote Jo Boaler, “A lot of scientific evidence suggests that the difference between those who succeed and those who don't is not the brains they were born with, but their approach to life, the messages they receive about their potential, and the opportunities they have to learn.” Your generous donation will directly impact my classroom by inspiring students from varied backgrounds to put their time, effort, and aspirations into coding and engineering. This will help produce modern workers who are competent and confident, and who have the skills necessary to be hired for jobs by companies in their own backyard. In a more immediate sense, it will give these students the opportunity to set and reach goals, collaborate in groups, and gain confidence in their own abilities. These skills are not only essential for competent workers, but also healthy, happy adults.
