When my students manipulate a puzzle, they are able to apply multiple skills that help in other aspects of their lives. I was very surprised to read that studies show how students benefit when making puzzles. I see it in my classroom everyday. The use of puzzles is essential to learning in our classroom. Currently we don't have enough puzzles to help support our learning. The limited puzzles we have are worn out and have missing pieces. When my students use puzzles they become better problem solvers. They work together to accomplish a finished product. The puzzles help with their gross motor skills and fine motor skills. My students need lots of movement with a purpose. They are able to use the puzzles to reinforce math, science, and reading skills, all while having fun. I can relate to my students’ love for puzzles because even now I enjoy making puzzles.
