The demands of early childhood reading continue to grow. The new standards and testing also have students using technology in their assessments. Having these tablets available to students from the time they start reading will help them be prepared. I see this even more with my own ten year old and five year old.
My ten year old is struggling taking assessments on the computer that are reading based. My five year old loves to be able to hear the story being read aloud and see words highlighted as she reads. It reaffirms her confidence and helps improve her reading abilities.
Kindles also provide a tremendous access to many books conveniently stored. They also help provide educational apps the students can use to improve their base knowledge of letters, letter sounds, writing, word recognition and math skills too.
Having the tablets for small groups will help with differentiated instruction to meet each student's individual needs right where they are. Technology is very important to meet the needs of this generation of learners. Students are very technology driven and the way they are learning now is with technology so that is how we can keep them engaged.
