If my students are given an iPad, keyboard, and Apple pencil to use within therapy sessions, it will provide them with the opportunity to practice skills learned in therapy through additional modalities while also becoming proficient in the use of technology to support their speech and language needs. An iPad would serve as an assistive aid and can deliver auditory feedback, a supplemental means of communication, and a benefit for generalization and carryover of learned techniques. The pencil and keyboard would provide options regarding student preference for input. Students would be able to write ideas using the apple pencil, type using the keyboard, or directly speak responses or thoughts and ideas. We live in a technology driven world and my students should learn how to use modern advancements to support their academic and functional needs despite their speech and language disabilities, disorders, or difficulties as opposed to being hindered by their unique needs.
