As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district my biggest question is, how can we close the achievement gap when students do not have the necessary materials to succeed? This is the situation with a lot of my children. I need more technology in the classroom to help better structure, personalize, and differentiate my instruction. From the moment, they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control everything; however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day and in my classroom. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue a path of academic excellence. I believe it is crucial to have a growth mind set in the classroom. I want my students to think about embracing challenges, struggles, criticisms, and setbacks as a source of growth.
