Science is meant to be experienced! My students have always been able to show much greater understanding of science concepts when they are able to make them happen. It's one thing to watch a video of chemical reactions but it is something much more meaningful to make a chemical reaction happen right in front of you. Even something as simple as steel wool in vinegar to cause temperature and color change can make all the difference in understanding chemical properties of matter. Creating an alka seltzer rocket to see how water temperature impacts how quickly it will launch helps us make graphs and connections to different topics.
