The Readers Workshop materials included in this project will help build reading fluency and stamina in our classroom. There are some advanced readers in room 17 that are looking for "good fit books" to go in their book boxes. The books that are included in this project will motivate the young readers in our classroom. As part of the Lucy Caulkins Readers Workshop program, students take home books at their level to build their fluency. The book boxes in the project will help students safely transport books to and from the classroom. Our classroom library has books that are sorted by theme, and by reading level. We need book boxes and book box labels for students to clearly know where to "shop" for books. I meet with each child several times a week to work on their personal reading goals. Organizing their data into hanging files will help them take ownership of their learning. Each day of the week the students track their goals in our classroom calendar. There are some students in the class who struggle with fluency. Fluency is an ongoing skill to conquer. Having students talk into a microphone and then listen to themselves read, will help them become more aware of their reading goals. We do Readers Workshop on a daily basis in the classroom. Having cozy places to sit is important for students so that they don't get distracted during their reading. Having these materials will create the perfect atmosphere for my students to thrive in Readers Workshop.
