These high interest reading materials will encourage my students to read because they want to, to be interested in what they are reading, to learn to love reading, and to want to read more and more. These magazines are different from the students' typical reading materials. They will receive a new issue monthly with current events topics and other stories of interest to young students. Students will be able to read these magazines independently, with some assistance, read with an adult, or they may read with a friend. Reading with a friend is an activity that they love. These magazines will have topics which will encourage not only reading, but discussion of the reading material. Discussion increases comprehension and application of what is read. I'm sure the students will be very excited to read and discuss these magazines.
