My students are intelligent and self-aware. They are inquisitive and interested in what's going on around them. My school is in a diverse, low-income area, and offers 100% free lunch. My 8th graders are a wonderful group of children, whom I had the pleasure of teaching last year. They enjoy reading, but aren't always offered the kind of literature they would want to read. They are the type of students who trust me and will let me know what they want out of their education. Unfortunately, these things aren't always possible with the budget cuts and lack of funding in my school district. They also don't have parents who can readily afford to buy them books to read.
