My Kindergarten students attend a public school in the state of Illinois. They are a very inquisitive and bright group. They enjoy asking questions and describing what they know about a particular subject they are learning. They also love reading and seeing pictures in non-fiction books on the animal/insects we may be studying. They are beginning to learn the Steps to the Scientific Method. I have taught them to begin every exploration with a question. For instance, What makes an animal an insect? Once they have their questions, they observe that animal to describe everything we notice about the animal. They even do drawings and labeling of parts of the animals. After their observations, we try to come to a conclusion from what we have learned to answer our beginning question. My students love to do science explorations and I can tell this by how much they retain and are able to discuss when we have future discussions on a specific topic.
