Students love exploring abstract concepts using all kinds of manipulatives. Children learn best through hands-on experiences. Manipulatives enable students to form a concert understanding of mathematical procedures that can be very confusing to children. This year, I had the opportunity to attend a training in mathematics where they modeled many uses of Cuisenaire Rods. These manipulatives are a wonderful tool that can help students develop a clear understanding of fractions. Also different magnetic manipulatives will enable me to clearly model the uses of different manipulatives with my students. By donating to this project, you will help improve my students' understanding of fifth grade math, so they will have a better handle on these concepts for future learning and hopefully move on to advanced courses in mathematics.
