The novels will allow my students the ability to open a book and: take a journey to magical lands, learn about the immigrant experience, how to survive in a harsh environment, and ways to overcome life's everyday obstacles. Reading and/or listening to a novel allows us to learn new things, expand our worldview, and ignite our dreams and imaginations. The audiobooks will help my ELL and Diverse learners to enjoy reading as well. Bridge to Terabithia will teach students about the bond of friendship and how to cope with grief, Esperanza Rising will help students understand the challenges and joys of immigrating to the U.S., and Island of the Blue Dolphin tells the story of strength and survival on a deserted island.
