My class is developing a community garden for our school. We integrate all aspects of gardening with writing across our curriculum. Considering my students are between the ages of 5 and 8, and their digging/tilling skills are limited, a cultivator would be a blessing to our program. My students have six 10x12 garden beds that will accommodate the abundance of sprouts they have seeded in our classroom greenhouse which they built. Our gardens provide teaching opportunities in responsibility, patience, and caring which are values greatly needed by our inner city youth. The excitement, joy, and happiness of seeing a project go from planting seeds to sharing harvested goods with our student body is awesome and inspiring. It gives my students a sense of pride and worth.
