My students will be able to use these Kindle Fire Tablets independently during literacy centers and collaboratively throughout the day. Being able to read or listen to reading on a tablet will provide my students with a whole new way of learning. My hope is that by providing the tablets as an option during literacy centers I will be able to engage some of my more reluctant readers, and challenge my more established readers. I will be able to do this not only through the novelty of the tablet but through the huge variety of reading materials and apps that will be accessible through the tablets. My class currently has very limited access to technology, and these tablets will be the perfect way to change that. Research tells us that blending technology with face-to-face teacher time produces far better outcomes than face-to-face or online learning alone. Technology in the classroom is a very powerful tool. I will use this tool to empower my students to become informed members of our global community not only now but in the future.
