My students need hands-on manipulatives such as a CPO Crazy Traits and four Molymod Chemistry Sets to learn genetics and early chemistry, specifically molecules. Funding is virtually non-existent in our school so students do not often see hands-on activities. Having the ability to actually make visual representations of molecules will help students see how molecules form. The way the kit is universal to all others they will see later in school will get students familiar with the somewhat universal designated colors that each element uses. Having an early exposure to this level of chemistry will help them excel once they reach high school. The traits activity will give them a fun way of understanding how genetics work and how traits are passed down. With these type activities, I hope the students develop a love for science.
