Preschool, what a wonderful place. Remember when you were four or five years old. You had your new book bag on your back. Two new sharpened pencils and your favorite t-shirt. It was a warm August day and the biggest day of your life. You walked into your new classroom with big shinny objects, bright colors and tons of material to play with. Remember the big blocks that help you expand your imagination by allowing you to build the tallest building ever. Or the magnetic letters that help you spell the word love when you draw your grandma a picture to hang on her refrigerator. Materials are very important for preschoolers to understand and internalize such broad concepts as numbers, science, and letters. The materials that I am asking for your support for will help students explore, examine and apply these broad concepts in a meaningful way! With your support, students will be able to construct letters, numbers, and shapes with the Playdough on our wish list. Students will be able to excerpt some of the energy that a typical four-year old has while using the small hop along balls to sit on during their center activities. Students will also have the opportunity to quantify, explore and use their imagination with the big tape by measuring each other and things in their environment. How exciting will it be for a four-year-old to take his/her big tape measure around confidently measuring things that are interesting to him/her? What an amazing way to be able to get a four-year-old an authentic and hands on experience with such an abstract idea.
