In my Algebra II classroom, we unfortunately do not have enough calculators for all scholars to use one in class and on our assessments. With the limited number of calculators we do have, my scholars have begun to realize how much more in depth they can go with their analysis of our content. As we get more in depth with our Algebra 2 content, we begin to analyze many different functions. If scholars have a tool to explore these functions, they are able to understand the reason why the coefficient of a quadratic term causes the width to change or why the value of k causes a graph to shift up or down. They give scholars a visual and a way to quickly test their theories about how functions move and how they are related. My school and district does not have the funding available to obtain the calculators for my scholars, and unfortunately as of now we are having a shortage network wide. Besides needing a calculator for each scholar to use- we have started to think more long term. My scholars have already pointed out that the upcoming class has more students than their class and they want them to be able to have access to the same tools that they do. Please consider donating to our class goal of 12 calculators!
