I want to offer my students a safe environment to work on computers while learning how to code (program). Learning facts is less and less relevant in a world where Google can satisfy just about any question in a matter of milliseconds; it is skills that will enable children to succeed, and that set of skills must include programming. Our reliance on technology will only increase. The students of today must be able to not only passively consume this technology, but also to understand and control it, becoming an active part of this huge digital shift. Additionally, learning the basics of how to code improves problem solving and reasoning skills. Lanschool is a classroom management software that allows me to monitor computers, teach more effectively, communicate with students while they work on their laptops, remove distractions, save time, and assess student progress. I am currently using a trial version of the software that expires at the end of December.
