Our students will receive a certificate at graduation as opposed to a diploma, and many will be looking for supported employment after graduation. We would like to teach them job skills that could assist them in finding employment after graduation. This project would not only teach them to make the product, but also teach them how to follow a timeline for production, economic skills for business management (value of money), and communication skills for working with customers. This project would also allow our students to be out of the classroom forming meaningful and lasting relationships with teachers and students throughout the school. Another goal we hope to accomplish is to bring people with and without disabilities together, allowing both parties to learn from each other through the selling/buying of coffee and refreshments. The supplies we hope to receive through this project would allow us to get our coffee cart business, Charger Brews, up and running. Some of these supplies include a cart to carry and transfer all the items that will be sold, a receipt book in order for students to keep up with sales, a cash box to store money received from sales and to store bills in order to provide customers with correct change, a mini fridge to store perishable items, a clock to hold students accountable for time as they would be in any real job, coffee makers to make the coffee, and a number of basic items such as coffee, creamer, tea, hot chocolate, marshmallows etc. Full funding of this project will give Charger Brews the best chance of thriving at our high school. The best learning takes place outside of the classroom, and we believe this project would be a great opportunity for not only our students, but for the school as a whole!
