We know that phonemic awareness is the foundational building block to learning to read. The ability to learn how to form letters correctly in a variety of places and on a variety of surfaces helps the brain to remember the pathway of motion necessary for retention of learning; hence the importance of the LCD writing tablets to the instruction of our students. Linking the sound of the letter while forming the letter on the LCD writing tablet helps build the phoneme/grapheme correspondence. Then blending the sounds together to create words. The colorful display will activate the brain as those visual pathways are created. By donating to my project, you will not only help to improve and increase student letter and word knowledge, you will ultimately help to create a reader. These twenty LCD writing tablets will help me support four Kindergarten classrooms to use during daily guided reading and word work. The LCD writing tablets will be used in instruction all year long. Help me to break the cycle of illiteracy that permeates our school population and give these Kindergartens a chance to grow and thrive in reading.
