In order for us to return to our classrooms, our schools must implement guidelines that protect the health and safety of all. Student seating will be distanced throughout the classroom and teachers will be unable to move close to students. Students and teachers will wear masks and may wear face shields. However, these present new challenges: With a mask, there are muffled voices, inability to read expressions or lips, and restricted airflow. With a face shield, there is an additional sound barrier. With distancing, there is restricted reach of teacher voice, and restricted movement for extended periods of time. A wireless microphone can mitigate these challenges, reducing the strain of vocal cords and allowing the use natural voice to reach every student even with these safety measures. Additionally, teachers will be rotating classrooms which means they will have to carry materials across the schools. These should be compact in size, when possible, to ease the physical load and burden.
