Would you pay attention and learn better if you were in a physically comfortable and relaxed setting? OF COURSE! Right now, my students (along with sooo many others) sit in uncomfortable, plastic, outdated, and sometimes broken desks for 8+ hours a day. Not only is sitting in these types of desks terrible for their back/posture and physical bodies, it also is a distraction to the learning process and their attention span. They often ask to leave the classroom , or go to the bathroom, just to get a break from having to sit in these desks for so long! I have made an effort this year to try to make my classroom more physically comfortable by working on such things as decor and lighting. I have witnessed how even this has made an impact on the learning that occurs in my classroom. What is STILL infringing on my students comfort though, are these awful desks. My goal is to create a space that feels safe, comfortable, and a place where students can relax and focus on learning. I want to slowly transform my classroom setting into a learning space where students can choose their type of seating and therefore improve their overall learning environment. From conversations with my students, they would absolutely LOVE having different seating options as I have asked for in this project. We would be so appreciative of your support.
