My students have been watching the news and witnessing firsthand the struggles their communities are going through: coronavirus, police brutality, racism, poverty. This project is to fund books that can directly speak to some of these issues and give them context to understand the events that are happening around them. My students have directly reached out, wanting to learn more about social activism and its history. They also are eager to read books with characters that are like them and represent their culture. Help my students be able to use literature as a way to learn about the past, themselves, and to better understand the world around them.
