Have you ever experienced success and struggled with a way of sharing it with others? Working with my fourth grade students to introduce and explore science concepts has regularly reflected this quandary. Students make a discovery, but lack the ability to linguistically describe their processes & procedures. Working in the high-need community of my urban elementary school has reminded me of the unique needs of the students I teach and learn alongside. Although my school has a multiple-intelligences theme, traditional instructional techniques don't honor this philosophy. My goal has been to break from tradition and implement more research based strategies for addressing student needs and increasing their number of intelligences through greater opportunities to apply diverse & multiple intelligences.
