Graphic novels are the most circulated titles in my collection. Several students are rereading the same titles for a second or third time. Quite a few of those students are my lower level and special needs students. The titles I have selected are from the “Graphic Novels for Teens” lists created by the American Library Association. Their lists contain award-winning titles and “meet the criteria of both good quality literature and appealing reading for teens.” My hope, with this project, is to place in the hands of my students’ dozens of new titles. The graphic novels would be added to the media center collection and available for checkout by all the high school students. This project would start the progress of developing a collection to meet the needs of my reluctant and lower level readers and encourage other students toward independent reading success.
