What's it like to teach in an urban school? Rewarding? Heartbreaking? A little bit of column a and a little bit of column b? I started my career in a very wealthy school district, and while I enjoyed my time teaching such talented students I couldn't help but wonder if this was the right school setting for me. I got into teaching because of my passion for social justice. The opportunity gap that exists in our public education system is one of the most pressing social justice issues of our time. I choose to teach in a low income to address the "needs" of diverse learners. But what I discovered is that my students have done just as much to help me grow and develop as person as I have done for them. I owe my students and our community so much. My hope is that I help liberate them in the same way they have liberated me. Please consider donating to my projects if you share the same passion for education equity. 1 luv!
