This year I would like to put together up to 10 different science investigation kits for my 5th grade students to take home and explore with friends and family. One example of a science investigation will have students attempting to build a working battery using a lemon. The aim of this project is to increase student engagement inside the classroom, improve student critical thinking, increase assessment scores, connect students academically with friends and family, and connect our student's friends and families with our school community. This project will make a difference because my students are hands on learners and have a strong sense of culture and family. Connecting science investigations with students who feel a strong sense of cultural pride and familial relation with their families and friends outside of school will increase their investment in their science education and understanding of material.
