When you ask a child what their favorite subject in school is, what do they say? In my experience, I rarely hear that science is the top choice. Instead I hear, "I don't like science" or "science is boring". The fact is, more and more of our future inventors (young people) are getting turned off to science. What will our future hold for us if our young people don't become engaged and skilled in this area? I'm a passionate 5th Grade teacher that has taught at a high need school for over eight years now. In my experience, our young students get turned off to this amazing field. In my classroom, we study about ecosystems in our books, but travel to them on the city bus as well. In addition, I guide experiments and inquiry where the students become engaged and motivated to learn more. In my classroom, you hear "I love science", "this is fun" or "I never knew this is science".
